As I'm trying to install Sonar 2.0XL on my XP pentium III puter, the installer told me it couldn't find DirectX8.1 on my PC and I told it "yes" to install (allthough I have directX 9.0 running). After installation of 8.1 it asked for a restart. When it restarts it comes ()over and over again) back to the same screen with restart and all that stuff. I can easily exit that window and jump to my normal XP desktop. But I can't get Sonar 2.0 XL to work with DirectX 9.0? How come? I am perfectly happy with my Pro Audio 9, but whats up here?
Anyone got a link for me?
Appreciate any help on this one...

Try clicking cancel on the Directx part of the installer and then try to launch SonarXL.
I had it installed on XP w/ no problems. I think it tried the same thing w/ me.
I'm under the impression the installer is relatively dumb, but so long as you have a compatible version of DirectX installed, it should run correctly.

Tnx but I actually found a better way. By going into regedit u can fool your system to think it has DX 8.1 even it has DX9.0. Here is how to...
in the directory structure on your left browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/DIRECTX
Change the value to 4.08.01.0810
then browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/NVIDIA Corporation/Global/NVTweak/State/DXVersion
and change MSVersionFlag to 4.08.01.0810
This will work for ALL NVIDIA USERS!!!
I only changed the first one. Couldn't find the second one. It now works.
tnx to MadCow for the solution.
Sonar is looking to be the update of CakeWalk I have been awaiting for a long time. Its darn good!
