The soundcards usually have a 1/8th stereo plug.
You can buy an adaptor at Radio Shack to take 1/8th stereo to two RCA jacks.
That will work fine, and you can add an extension cable to run it out to the living room.

Many soundcards do have RCA jacks. I use an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96, which has stereo analog RCA inputs and outputs, as well as RCA S/PDIF input and output jacks and MIDI in and out jacks. It has those great 24/96 A-D's and D-A's, comes with a real useful software mixer utility, and costs less than $200. Just the thing for your PC-based studio!

I just bought the Hercules Game Theater XP, and it comes with a breakout box with RCA out's. The box also has a USB hus, MIDI in and out, and a few other cool things. For only $129 it's a great deal.

Anyone have an opinion of the Emagic 2/6 USB digital audio interface, i am thinking of getting this, but am unsure on all the jargon:

'2 input channels' - ok..what does mean? what would i be putting in?
'6 output channels' - same again...would i plug my monitor speakers here on 2 of these outputs (L & R)?? i assume headphones also plug in here?

my synth has a USB output to use as a midi controller for software..would this plug into the emagic 2/6 unit or would i plug straight onto the computers USB?

thank you - i am still trying to understand the routings and set ups before i buy anything..

I have to also recommend the M-Audio Audiophile. It comes highly recommended by a friend of mine that owns a studio downtown. I played with it on the PC at the music store I go to. Pretty cool.

The EMI interfaces are a means to interface analog audio to your computer digitally through the USB ports. You plug your analog devices in and out of this box and connect the EMI to your computer through USB. It's a good quality interface and has advantages over other systems when using it with Logic Audio. This may be a great solution for you specifically BlackOctopus. A Titanium Powerbook with Logic and and EMI 6|2 would be a great solution and afford you the ability to do multiple tasks without getting too frustrated.
