For some reason, when i go into my device manager and check the properties of my hard drive, the DMA box is always unchecked.
If i try to enable it, as soon as i restart it's disabled again. in my BIOS i've DMA enabled at 4x, and i've even tried running the floppy disc that comes with the hard drive which activates the DMA function. It simply said that DMA was already enabled. So.. i'm not sure what to believe. i'm admittedly having a lot of problems in my sequencer-the hard drive can't handle what seems like an average load (in nuendo, the hard drive usage meter will be practically overloaded with 4 or 5 audio tracks, and this causes problems when i'm working on even an average sized mix). all of my buffers, memory settings, etc. are what they should be.. The drive itself is an older Western Digital 7200 RPM Ultra ATA/66 13.6 gig.

my PC is a 1 ghz intel III processor with an ASUS CUSL2 motherboard, 256mb ram running windows 98 2nd edition.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I had the EXACT problem as you with the CUSL2-C - except that it never gave me a DMA options for any of my drives AT ALL! i was baffled and pissed off so i sold it!

But Then - (it always turns out this way) - it was a very simple thing. You Apparently have to flash the BIOS and switch some jumbers on the motherboard around.or something like that - even though it's allready flashed at the factory..

MY friend I sold the board told me this and did that - and the board behaved the way it's supposed to!

oh man.. you don't remember any specifics do you?? i hate even opening up the chasis and fiddling with anything in there-seems something always goes wrong and ends up worse than it started!

yeah - i know exactly what you mean -

only prob with this is that this thing you're supposed to have done is before you even add any hardware.. lol... so you'll have to rip your computer apart.. ahhhh!!

ill find out this weekend what he had to do to make it work..

Cheers,
