Hi. I've used ProTools for a year or two after the demise of Opcode and have recently installed the OS X version of PT LE for the digi001. My question is this, I have used the faithful Opcode Studio 5 and wanted to know what a good MIDI interface is for the new setup.
I think the Digi001 MIDI capabilities totally stink so I'm looking for an external device such as USB or whatever. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin Anthony
There's still nothing on the market that does everything the Studio 5 could do. There are a few interfaces that will do some things it couldn't do. I think you should take this opportunity to take a step back and think about what you "need" your interface to do for you and then go from that. It's usually pretty easy to connect multiple USB interfaces for more ports so, depending on how many ports you really need, you may even want to buy two different interfaces.

DAS,
Thanks for the reply. Currently I just need it to control the MIDI devices that I have. I want to avoid using the 001 as a MIDI controller since I've had issues with its' performance. Can you recommend a product that would allow connection of mulitple MIDI devices, in my case I have 10 rack mounted keyboards and I use a Oxygen 8 as a MIDI input controller. Would daisy chaining all those together through the Oxygen 8 be a really bad idea? Thanks for your help.

Yes, I wouldn't do that.
I'd advise an 8-port interface. If you want maximum flexibility a MOTU MTPAV would be great.

Depending upon what you'd like to be able to do in the future this could be overkill though. It might be good for you to talk to one of our Sales Engineers. There are some nuances that can be important, and they have a lot of experience putting systems like yours together (no reason to spend more money than necessary to get exactly what you need).

Hello Guys:scared:
I just updated to PT6.01 and I'm on OS10.2.5
I have the Stealth Port in my G4 Dual 1Ghz with 1.5GB Ram....
Anyway, I'm using the Opcode Studio64XTC...and after I hear what you are saying I am wishing I was psychic...as when Opcode left the scene I have been in the dark with my STUDIO64XTC...I almost bought the MOTU TPAV like you say...the SERIAL one...
Now my question and info is this...
Digi claims that OSX CURRENt doesn't support SERIAL...now I'm a bit confused on this for I find this is FALSE...
I was able to DOWNLOAD a STEALTH PORT Driver for OSX...and for AMS...
Now get this...
I CAN SUCCESSFULLY RECORD into ProTools 6.01, however, ProTools doesn't PLAYBACK nor communicate to the Midi Interface...nadda
I've tried everything I can think of...
The clincher is this...the OPCODE box had to use OMS to program the box...so I'm having to go OS9 to do this...
But, I was sure to emulate the SETUP in AMS...after setting the PORT to the OPCODE...
PROTOOLS recognizes it for I can select my Devices in ProTools...
I set the OUTPUT to my E4 channel ONE which is what the instrument was on...
Anyway, to keep this short...
Who is false here? is it ProTools saying that THEY don't support SERIAL from the stealth port besides MACHINE control...and why would they claim MACHINE CONTROL and not the rest of MIDI?...and also why would they claim APPLE doesn't support this when in fact this third party GEETHREE is still writing software for their product.
Was Digi off base on this? did I mis read this as DIGI saying that THEY don't support it?
instead of APPLE? which seems to still be on the fence about this...
I'm confused as to who to ask now...
Besides GeeThree claims it might be a config error...or ProTools problem...
Why then does it RECORD into the APPLE PROTOOLS, but then not PLAYBACK?
This sounds like a glitch...
And I'm stomped as to what to do...besides just like you said INVEST into another box...
But, since I've got the mBox and no SUPER clock needs I might just as well save money on this and use the OPCODE box on my old TDM PT3.2 system which hooks up to VIDEO...
But, the thing that just keeps me fighting is that it ALMOST worked...
And it just might be my ERROR in the setup...
AMS is unlike OMS in the fact that you don't actually SELECT to CONNECT the COMPUTER...ya know? it must do this AUTOMATICALLY...
And also, HOW can ProTools give you VIRTUAL MIDI interfaces and not SUPPORT an ACTUAL PORT? this PORT is the same as a USB after the driver software is installed...
Any ideas? for Digi seems to be the next to speak on this...as GeeThree seems to think it is my fault or theirs...but, they also say that LOGIC users are having NO PROBLEMS...
SO LOGIC works fine , but not PROTOOLS?
SOrry to make this so long, but I also wanted to add the GLITCHES that I am getting from the ProTools 6.01
v.601 fixed the fact of being able to use the mBox for SYSTEM AUDIO...
But, NOW it only allows ONE APP to access it at a time!
Where as under OS9 and the DigiInit...you could run anything through it all at the same time...
What is this all about?
Now I get a DEVICE can't be found or is being used by another application...HOW LAME IS THAT?
It says to quit out of ONE and try again...
SO now under OSX we are back to THE PAST of DIGITAL AUDIO...
OR so it seems...
ANy light on this subject? Driver update to fix this? or Do I have to wait until PROTOOLS 7? or 8? :lick:
Cheers,
