i have heard numerous raves about waves. lol are these pluggins really that good? what makes them so? i guess i just need reasurance spending that kind of money on something intangeable......

They're kind of a standard against which all others are judged, because just about every pro rig has them installed. All of them are very usable. Some may like someone else's reverb or someone else's EQ better, but the Waves plugs work well every time. I have all of the Waves plug-ins except the Restoration and Surround bundles. I do like my TC PowerCore reverbs better, but they're DSP as opposed to native, so I would expect that. I also like some of the TC and UA EQ's a bit better for some things, but not for others.
They're a HUGE step up from the plug-ins bundled with all native DAW's. Purchasing, say, the Gold bundle will be a decision you never regret. And if you think about what the equvalent hardware would cost, it's a steal.
