I currently run a G3 450 for my SVP 3.5 and PTLE 5.0. I am in the market for an upgrade to a G4 867. The G3 has a 9GB (5400rpm) drive and the G4 has a 60GB (7200rpm) drive, (both are ATA drives). I'd like to keep SVP on the G3, and dedicate the G4 to PTLE. How do I sync the two computers (with my MTP-AV USB)? Further, I'd like to switch the hard drives, but I'm not sure that's possible. Reason: I want to record my tracks to the 60GB drive along with MIDI, while running PTLE itself on the smaller 9GB drive. I figured, why not try to maximize my disk space and try to bypass having to buy an external drive for tracking.

just purchase a 2nd hard drive for your G4/867 to record your audio on (firewire or uw scsi) and partition the internal 60 gig so you can use most of it (58 gig?) for back up of the recording drive. then you will have the advantages of recording to an audio only hard drive with its own power supply (that doesn't tax the mac's) and you can also drag and drop your audio for simple back up
