Anyone have any comments on DP3 and UAD-1 powered plug-ins' compatability? Love 'em or hate 'em?

Xtatic and Michael Holliday both have the UAD-1 with DP3. Xtatic has had some issues, but Michael has not and also uses a TCPowerCore card with his UAD. See if you can search, or just brouse the Macintosh section or Digital Performer section to see if you can locate their posts.

Yeah, check my comments elsewhere, but my general theme is that the PowerCore works much better with DP, especially on dual-processor Macs.

The UAD will not allow you to use your second processor very effectively. It also is a little unstable, and you have to be very strategic with how and where you use the UAD plug-ins, and where you use DelayComp plugs, which eat memory and muck up the CPU.

The UAD also hits the CPU a LOT harder than the PowerCore.

But it does sound great. If only it worked better, it'd be a steal for the money.

Well, I bought the UAD-1 from Sweetwater last week to run on my DP3 set-up, and here's my experence (forgive the speling):

I snuck the littlke box into my studio so my wife wouldn't se me with "more new gear." It was last Tuesday, 8:12 p.m. I opened my Mac, installed the card, closed my Mac, reconnected it to my system, installed the software, and I was working on my first mix by 8:34 p.m. Really. Everything just worked. I didn't even think about calling tech support. And it sounds great.

....but the advertising that Mackie is printing may be correct technically, it's very misleading. My 733 MHz G4 is "brought to its knees." Exactly opposite of what Mackie and UA claim. I've fiddled with memory adjustments without success. Latency, though, dosn't seem like a big issue.

Are you maxing out your CPU, or are you running out of memory? Are you using any DelayComp plugs?

Mine is working on my dual-processor G4 800 pretty well now. But it's touchy, and I still can't do much with the second processor.

Just to clear confusion, I do not use DP3, and am on a PC. But have been very happy with my UAD-1. Maybe will try powercore also.
Michael, have you tried the new Cambridge EQ yet? I messed with it for a few minutes, seemed as surgical as the waves Q series, yet had much more character:) Also, there should be a new dreamverb plug in coming out for free on the UAD, and they have a new UAD coming out that will allow you to use it live as you would an outboard unit. That sounds appealing to me:) There is also a new driver rlease for the UAD, I don't remember what problems it addresses, but I do know that it allows you to directly type in parameters instead of having to use the knobs.
