Hey all,

Newbie here, and I'm currently on the 'quest for knowledge' with all this recording stuff. The main hurdle at this point is whether to go PC based or all-in-one type of recording.

PC based for me, means I'd have to build myself a new PC, which just adds to the overall expense.

All-in-one units are good for the portability, which I'm thinking we may need. The 'we' is the band I'm in. Right now we'd need to record 7 devices. 2 vocal, 2 amps, & 3 for drums.

I have no specific questions at the time, but I'm sure I will as time goes on. Just wanted to say 'Hi'.

depends on how much money you have. sorry to say it, but it does.

if you wanna record in your house, then i suggest building a PC, which doesnt cost that much right now. prices are REAL cheap, so right now is the time to build. You can build a rippin PC for about $800-900 depending on what you get.

i myself am trying to save $10.000 for a Mackie D8B. boy does that thing kill!!

He's right MONEY IS THE FACTOR! To get anything decent you must spend a little. Now I'm not saying that you have to take a second mortgage out on your house but you will be spending anywhere from 2-4 grand avg. I have logic audio for my pc and it is great for what I do. I do use midi and audi and it's nice to score music in the midi rhelm. However, if I didn't use sequencing as I do, which your band my not, I'd buy Mackie, Tascam, Yamaha or even an Alisis 24 track stand alone recorder. you should have a mixing board also with these. I don't know if you do NEED one but I'd imagine it would be easier to track. If you already have a mixer it would probably be easier if you went stand alone recorder; it's more user friendly then some of the music programs I've used on Mac and PC, especially if you anen't savy on the computer in the music area.
