I'm currently running Cubase VST (can't afford to upgrade) with dual monitors. Let me tell anyone who is still using only one monitor that before you go out and buy a bunch of new plugins or another box of flashy, blinky lights for your rack of outboard gear, go get another monitor. The difference in productivity is well worth the few extra dollars.

I'm having a problem however. I am running 2 video cards. 1) ATI Radeon 7500 64MB AGP outputs to a 19" monitor (primary video), usually running 1152 X 862 and 32 bit color. 2) ATI somehting or other 8MB PCI outputs to 17" monitor running 800 X 600 and 16 bit color.

It seems the only thing I can put on the second monitor is the transport controls and the SMPT display. Windoze can fully use both screens and even full screen full motion video, so I know that the second card is functioning properly.

Before I run out to the nearest store and buy a dual head video card (Matrox or ATI), I am wondering if this little problem is Cubase's inability to use the second monitor or if it is a hardware issue. I would really like to be able to put effects and such on the other monitor. If the new hardware won't help, I think I might just go out and buy something with a few more blinky lights for my rack o' stuff.

Thanks all.

I use cubase sx and sometimes nuendo in dual monitor mode all the time. I have never had a problem. One thing though, before you can put most cubase windows on the second monitor, you have to expand the primary cubase screen across most monitors. I would also recommend a dual head video card. I am using a matrox G450 with only 32 megs of memory on it and it has worked flawlessly for me. But, at least with Cubase SX or with Nuendo, the dual monitor thing is no problem at all. The only thing I hate is that when you set the project screen to maximize, and then open anything else on top of it, when you click back into the project screen it resizes itself. Other than that, no probs, and it does that with just one monitor too.

That was it. I never realized that I had to spread the main window across both monitors. I agree with you on the dual head card. Losing the PCI card would take some strain off of the PCI bus.

On a somewhat related topic, I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=29504&item=3400038400&rd=1

I wonder if I could use it to control faders. I think I'll have to try one and see.

Thannks for the input.
