I work with a speech and language therapy clinic for children, and we are interested in creating a room where we can record initial clinical visits, and then create progress milestone videos at certain times after therapy has started. The usage of these videos will be largely internal, used for training and progress reviews with parents.

We have devoted a treatment room to be the recording 'studio', so the equipment can be placed permanently. The room is small, roughly 8' x 12'.

Our requirements are:

inexpensive to start with, but modular enough to improve later
accessible from our local network
simple enough system for the speech clinician to start and stop as needed
modest editing requirements
good quality audio
acceptable quality video

What would you recommend in terms of setup, equipment and software?

One last note: we are audio/video newbies, so we have little expertise in this area.

Thanks for any advice you can provide,
