View Full Version : Multiprocessing in DP

Is anyone else out there wondering how DP3 distributes the processing load between dual processors? I'm running a G4 with dual 500Mhz processors & 896Mb of ram. While mixing on a 40+ track project with a moderate amount of the smaller DP & Waves plug-ins running, the main processing 'meter' might show heavy usage (60 to 80%) while, at the same time showing very little usage (5 to 10%) on the multi-processing 'meter'. When I attempt to open a larger Waves plug-in (such as Renaissance Reverb), DP3 doesn't allocate the second barely used processor. Instead it attempts to open it on the main processor which uasually always causes a lock up or crash due to processor overload. Is there a way around this?

Apparently this is not a hot topic, or perhaps I put it in the wrong forum... in any case, I received a reply from an email inquiry to Motu tech support today, reads as follows:

"There's how it works... FX on one track tax the first processor... one track never uses both processors... tracks on the 2nd track tax the 2nd processor. So my guess as to why the first meter is higher is because you have several FX on one track."

Thanks Danny Gold. I'll be trying this one out.
