I'm a little confused on what Mac audio card will work with applications.

Specifically, I want a card with spdif that will work with Final Cut Pro. I thought that meant it had to be "sound manager compliant," but a guy on another board is using a RME Hammerfall card, which is only listed as "ASIO" compliant.

I thought Final Cut Pro was not ASIO. Can someone fill me in?

Also, I was told that my Audiomedia III will only work for sound out on a G4, os 9.1 Mac with Final Cut. Can you clarify whether there is a way to get this card to capture spdif from within Final Cut Pro.

Thanks a lot, this info is hard to dig up.

I see how your confused here.

ASIO is a standard device driver for many different types of sound cards alike, It's a universal driver for many different types of software... That's not to say all sequencing software supports it, but for the most part it's worked on everything. (I've used) Also Asio Can run along side the sound manager giving you the flexibility to route channels through it.
The sound manager is a driver designed for several sound chips used on the macintosh motherboards... A.K.A. onboard sound. It provides a single Stereo input output to and from the mac along with built in synthensis. A.K.A. Quicktime.
Any Standard sound card should work fine, Audiomedia, Protools, Motu, KORG, etc. However I personaly perfer MOTU's Core 2408 system for it's incredible flexibility.

Hope the info has been helpfull, and feel fre to ask away.
