Ok, here's the deal. I have a room that is 24X16 that I'm making into a Recording studio (I posted a question about that earlier). Right next to it is a smaller room that I want to use as the Control Room. The problem is that there is a doorway with no door or anything in it. I am trying to figure out the best way to separate the two room, sill being able to see, and making it so it doesn't bleed through too much. Keep in mind that I don't own this house, I'm just renting it. I can't really tear down walls or anything. I wasn't sure if Plexiglas is the way to go or not.

Also, the control room has hardwood floors much like the recording studio. The control room is square with sheetrocked walls and stuff. I was wondering if I should put up something to help keep the sound accurate in that room as well. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Yes, you'll need to treat that room also. Again, reference the book I listed earlier. Plexiglass and sheetrock in a 2x4 frame, or 2x6 frame to fill the hole, will work. You'll want to use two pieces of plexiglass and make sure they aren't parallel. If the plexiglass is parallel, then they will creat sympathetic vibrations and allow the sound to transfer between rooms. Use as much fibreglass insulation as possible in the hole, but don't stuff it too much.

Get some moving blankets and some micm stands. This will not soundproof anything but it will definelty help you control those parallel walls. I use moving blankets for every session. Just placing them around the room away from the wall, on an angle or building small isolation tents helps.
