I own a Marantz PMD-670 digital recorder for which I want to buy a remote control unit. The PMD-670 has a "remote" jack on the right side for this purpose. I couldn't find a remote specifically listed as being designed for use with the PMD-670, and the best match I could find was the Marantz RC-600 remote which is described as "for the PMD series of recorders", although the PMD-670 isn't mentioned in the compatibility list while the PMD-671 is. I called up D&M Professional's tech support line and asked, and was told that yes, the RC-600 would work with the PMD-670 recorder.

When I got the remote, it turns out that the plug on the remote is slightly larger (perhaps 0.1mm or so) than the jack on the PMD-670, so it's a no-go, so I can't even tell if the remote is pin-compatible with the recorder. Does anyone know if there's a remote available specifically for the PMD-670? Or do I just need a (4 connector) tip-ring-sleeve adaptor for the 2.5mm jack in the PMD-670 and if so, where might one be found? The User's Manual is silent on this issue.

a (4 connector) tip-ring-sleeve adaptor

Do you mean tip-ring-ring-sleeve for 4 conductors? Or just TRS? The latter definitely exists, just search for 3.5mm to 2.5mm stereo.

The plug on the RC600 has a tip and 3 sleeve bands - 4 conductors.

It turns out, though, that there is no designated remote for the PMD-670. This is an RTFM issue, and my bad, basically, although it would have been helpful if the phone tech support person at D-M Pro with whom I talked last week hadn't assured me that the RC600 was the proper remote for the PMD-670.

The remote for the PMD-670 is just a simple SPST switch connected to a 2.5mm tip-sleeve plug. What gets switched by the remote is selectable according to a setting on the unit's configuration menu. I can make such a switch, or buy one from a local electronics store. Live and learn. RTFM :(
