I'm in the process of searching for a computer based HD system. I've noticed most high end units use the term "full duplex" as one of the features of the inputs. I have some idea of what it means having used computers and modems for some time, but what specific application does this do for me in the recording process?

Thanks for the help!

The term full duplex refers to an I/O driver's ability to access both the inputs and outputs at the same time. Most of the the pro-audio "soundcards" today are all full duplex. However, some of the Soundblasters and other multimedia cards are not. This matters to you in that you could not "hear" the playback tracks while you are recording overdubs if you have a card that is "Simplex" (or not full duplex.)

I hope this helps you. -cs
