I do location recording with DP3 and a MOTU 828. Mostly, I record only audio, but recently I have been getting requests for video, also. I have a consumer miniDV camera (Canon ZR10). I want to sync the video in Final Cut Pro 3 with the DP3 audio in post production. Does anyone have some advice? I'm not in the market to purchase a high-end camera and a timepiece right now.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Well, you're not going to be able to use time code sync, so the best thing to do is lay down the audio you captured with the 828 first, then (using the audio track of the video as reference) nudge the video into place. It shouldn't drift too badly, but I'd break it into 30 second clips, check the audio sync (by ear) and anchor each clip.

Ryan:
I started to anwer this question last night, but got distracted by a baby emergency then came back and had hit the back button.
Anyway. Is there anyway to capture the audio from your mixing board to the ZR10? I have done what you're attempting before, but went about it a bit different.
I've recorded videos for bands, schools, and Hillsdale College's performance of Handel's Messiah, the 2 hour performance. Using 2 Canon XL1's and a Sony TRV20 for footage. I was able to send audio from the mixing board to the XL1 for sync with the DP3 proect later.
You're supposed to be able to import QT movies into DP3 but I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks for the advice. It's been very helpul for this project.
Is there a way to sync via LANC in the future? I'm just not able to shell out the cash for a pro camera right now.
Thanks,
Ryan

You could always do it the old fashion way by clapping your hands in front of the camera and lining up your imported audio into final cut
