I thought i would post my most recent Mac experience for you all to enjoy!

Got the MBox just before Thanksgiving so i thought i would install it and learn a little pro tools over the weekend now that i have my Imac flat screen..ready at last..

Everything installed fine except for a few drivers which i had to manually drop into place...i load in the LE demos and record a couple of test tracks into them from my Yamaha Motif..(the midi track had perfect input level but the audio input is really low if anyone can help on that? i have input set to LINE on MBox)
Anyway.. all was well until i closed it down and innocently play an audio CD on iTunes..wont playback. wont eject..hmm. i try to open sound manager as i had recently set it so that digidesign plays back all audio..and it wont let me open sound manger..shocked i close down, only to boot up to loads of messages..i go to the extensions manager and lo and behold - the extensions have all disappeared!..there are few random ones floating about in various folders..but mainly..nothing! I run disk first aid and get the message "Problem found but unable to repair"
"Problem: Invalid key length, 4, 50"

On the phone to apple now and i am informed i have reached rock bottom.."You cannot get any lower than this" the guy cheerily informs me..we do a test and it's completely buggered.

Have to initialise the DISK..install everything from scratch - lose everthing i had on there. Oh well. The apple kid said that it is quite a liberating experience doing this and i nearly punched him out over the phone..but today..i do feel 'strangely liberated'..

Does anyone else ever go through this? Reading similar accounts would cheer me up.

I will endeavour to 'back up' as they call it. TAKE 2...

Cheers, Simon

Simon:
Get yourself "DiskWarrior" from Alsoft. Great utility to augment Norton Utilities or Tech Tool Pro.

Sorry for your bad luck. Most of us in the Mac world have learned some of the things third party installers can do to our systems. If you want to know what's happening in the Mac World from people who may have also hit 'rock bottom' check out the Apple Discussion Groups.
