I am recording a demo for my band, but I am unfortunately limited to two tracks at a time. To Record the drums I figured a stereo pair would be the way to go. Does any one have suggestions on Configuration or placement?

Thanks in advance.

It really depends on your equipment, but some of my first choices would be:

- coincident pair (or ORTF, etc), overhead, pointing down (or Blumlein)
- same thing, but out front^^
- Recorderman setup

You could also get a mixer and do a live-to-2 sort of mix (where you'd have more than 2 mics going, but submix down to two.

What sort of mics do you have to use?

But i'd probably suggest what smithcok said, use a mixer and bounce 4 tracks to stereo, because you will get much better results with at least 4 mics, one for Kick, Snare and two overheads.

Or if you can borrow/buy an Ekit and trigger some high quality samples such as Superior 2.0. thats another way if possible.
