MOTU 896 or 2408MKIII ?????

I am looking at the two different possibilities for my Digital Performer 3.1 running on a G3. If I go with the MKIII which has the PCI card, is processing faster than going with firewire?? Plus, if I were to go with the 896, are the pre amps good enough to work with or will I have to get a pre amp seperately???

Besides the 24/96 resolution and 4 AudioWire ports, the PCI424 card has a built in DSP on it allowing for a bit of an offload of processing power from your CPU. That might be a big benefit for your G3. Processing of audio in/out I don't think will be much different between the 2408MKIII and 896, however, the 896 doesn't have any DSP to ease the load from your processor. As to the mic pre's, I really don't know as I've not auditioned the 896.
