Hey Guys,

Opinion question for you. I'm running a digi 003 with pt le 7.3 and I'm curious if I could run a Presonus Eureka at 24/96 and if there would be much difference in the quality of vocal recording if I were to use that instead of the 003. I know it has a lot more features, but as I've been learning more isn't necessarily more. Just want to know everyones opinion I guess.

Thanks a lot!

You have to run PT at 96k as well, and you could if you have the optional digital card. To answer the second question, no, it wont really make an audible difference. Just bigger files size.

Well, I'd bet that as a preamp, the Eureka would sound better than the stock 003 preamps (not to say that those aren't totally usable)

As far as higher sample rates go, that's been a big subjective debate from the get-go. Some Nyquist theory enthusiasts will argue that 44.1 is the end all sample rate. Nothing higher matters. But, since transduction (not "hearing") in our hearing system occurs much higher than 20k, and that many people believe they hear better quality at higher res, the high res "side" is supported by many.

It is were me, rather than spending $800 on the Eureka and the digital card, I'd probably grab a different preamp. (lots of great pre's in the 800 range. UA twinfinity looks cool, focusrite isa, grace, drawmer)

If you are going to do higher res sessions, make sure your computer can handle it.

Sorry should have been more specific. I always remember afterwards.

I always record in 24/96 with the digi. I figure it can't hurt it, maybe will help it and my computer can handle it.

I have access to the Eureka Preamp for free. I was just curious if anybody thought it would be worth my time.

Thanks a lot!
