Hi, FIRST POST!

So I bought some PA gear from a friend and a dbx DriveRack PA unit was included. I've NEVER used one of these before and was wondering if it's all its cracked up to be. In the next month or so I'm going to be installing a PA system into a medium sized venue. Would this be of any use or would a "regular" crossover work better? Any help would be appreciated! :)

oh and I noticed it says for POWERED speakers...the only active speakers I'd be working with would be the monitors....the mains/subs are passive/amp powered.

thanks again!

I use the DriveRack PA and absolutely love it. The crossover is great with many options, each output pair has its own limiter threshold, and one of my favorite parts is the feedback suppressor which no PA system should be without. The only thing is, assuming the DRPA is on your mains then the feedback-killing notches are only going to be on your mains. But you could get a Behringer FBQ2496 unit (very inexpensive, yet one of their good products) for every pair of monitor sends which also works nicely. Be sure to ring out each pair separately -- mute everything else.

Whether you connect active speakers or passive with amps makes no difference at all.

Agreed, I also use the DriveRack PA and so far it has really helped with setting things up. Do you have the RTA mic? Set your system up without running the EQ and play a cd, then run the EQ with the RTA and you will notice a HUGE difference. The crossover is great as well. I understand that a lot of very experienced sound technicians don't like the (lower-budget) driveracks, but for us "simple" folk, it cleans things up a lot.
