I posted a note a few months ago regarding a dead Masterlink. The saga continues. I live in the Middle East, thousands of miles from the nearest Alesis dealer. I bought a Masterlink from a dealer in Dubai and it went wrong, the power socket developed a glitch which damaged the CD burner. On the advice of the dealer I tried to find a replacement CD burner, only to discover that Alesis only wrote drivers for two or three specific CDRW drives. Again on the advice of the dealer I took the unit back to him in Dubai. This was due to the fact that I bought it off him in October last year and the problem developed in May this year. I presumed that I would be covered at least some way by the warranty. HA! Four months later I'm told that the unit is ready and it will cost $320. Is this about right or am I being taken to the cleaners by an unscrupulous dealer ? It seems a bit high to replace a CDRW drive which are almost a dime-a-dozen. I admit (with the clarity of 20-20 hindsight) that I should perhaps have not opened it up to try and fix it. However, being such a great distance from any dealer makes you do crazy things. I was hoping to reduce downtime. This obviously was a mistake since it's been out of action for four months. Any thoughts or opinions would be gratefully accepted. Has anyone had any experience with warranty repairs with Alesis recently ?
Sorry for the long moan, I'm just a little p***ed off.
