Hi
I'm looking for a multitracking program to record various instruments and mix them together. Ultimately I'd like to creat a CD with the songs I record. I've never done something like this before and I don't want to spend a huge amount of money. Any suggestions on what program I can use to start out?
Thanks a lot!

Chris

I geuss since you've not done anything like this before, before you start spending money, you should investigate the possibilities of software. That depends on what platform (PC/MAC) you're using. If you want to check out freeware/shareware, check out VersionTracker.com to see what's out there. I know at one point in time, there was a free version of ProTools that was limited to 8 tracks, but would probably do what you need. As for hardware, depends on the quality of the final product you're looking for.

thanks cmchamp-
I'm using a PC... I already looked at the free version of ProTools but it isn't compatible with the Windows XP that I have.
As for the quality of the final product, I could start out w/o perfect quality, but I don't want it to be completely crappy.
Any more help would be appreciated.
Thanks

check out vegas audio. it is a powerful program and is very easy to use. www.sonicfoundry.com . they also have a "lite" version that is limited to 8 tracks. if that is all you need.
