View Full Version : Tone Port Gold Bundle (Line 6): you need to buy the plug-in??

So I just got the gold bundle from Sweetwater.

Seems like a great deal for $100.

But, now that I am installing it, it seems that I have to pay another $100 to get the plug-in version? If that is correct, its fairly misleading in the advertising.

Hopefully I am just incompetent. Anyone else buy this?

Problem solved. For anyone else in the situation:

You need to go to Line6.com to create a profile with them. From there, you can download the latest GearBox software installer (3.60 I think). That program, once installed, will correctly recognize the USB interface that the software comes with.

By registering, authorizing, and activating that, you will get the plug-in automatically. (In Pro Tools, it showed up for me in "Other", not where my other amp sims are)

A slightly odd process of installing and registering, but this sounds/feels great so far (feels like playing through an amp at 32 samples, and sounds very good so far).

Yep, they manage and authorize all their plugins with the "Line 6 Monkey" software applet. It's required to get the extra profiles loaded into the software as well.

Yeah, my main initial problem was that the 3.0 monkey software version was not recognizing my interface (thus preventing autorization/activating/etc...). However, I could still run and use the standalone GearBox with the interface.

The 3.6 version recognized it.
(I don't need the toneport, but apparently it functions as a dongle of sorts)

If i remember correctly, the interface is the dongle. When you authorize w/ the Monkey, it somehow links the software and that interface, so whatever you registered will run when that hardware is connected.
