greetings,

well i have decide to get rid of my P4 desktop and go mobile(mac prefered).A g4 powerbook is outta the question($$$),so i'm looking at 2 options.

1)An older wall street 300/512 ram using a digigram VX

or

2)Ibook 600/512 ram w/ Emagic 2/6..possibly the mbox.

my primary use is w/ softsynths/samplers but will be recording bands once in a while. Will more than likely be using logic gold/ with ex24 .
any opinions would be great.

thanks,

matt

Matt:
For what you're wanting to do, a G4 processor with the AltiVec engine is going to really help. I have an iBook 500 dual USB with 320MB of ram. I don't record with it, but using Digital Performer, I do use it for playback sometimes. I am able to mix-down and edit only about 8 tracks maximum with EQ, compressors, verbs, etc.

If you can, you'll want to make sure you get a 5400 or 7200 RPM drive. Most iBooks ship with a slower drive. That will add to the cost, but it's worth it for the performance boost.

The faster the processor the better, but I'd still recommend trying to get into a Titanium. They aren't as road worty as the iBooks, but I'm telling you, you're gonna want their processing power.

i may have to rethink this a bit more, esp since the new powerbooks are out

it may be worth the wait.

Yup! Just read the Maccentral report. Looks like a great time to purchase a TiBook.

Besides, with the TiBook, it's my understanding it still has an audio in, and that it supports 24bit in OSX. That's my understanding. Now, third party developers taking advantage of that, that's another story.
