I need some help trying to figure out which software package to go with.... Nuendo or Digital Preformer...... I am trying to setup a small project studio.... I am think of using the Motu 896 for an I/O.

Either. DP will integrate with MOTU audio hardware more seamlessly, does MIDI better, and has a nicer-looking graphic user interface, and is Mac only. Nuendo is VST-compatible (allowing you more flexibility with soft synths and the myriad of VST effects) and is available on the PC.
You won't lose either way. It just depends on your priorities.
I use DP 3.1, by the way. Very happy with it, as most of my gripes about DP3 were addressed in the 3.1 upgrade.

I know many people prefer the look of DP3's interface to that of Nuendo/Cubase SX, but I just don't see it. DP3's graphics & lettering is so small -- I think the Nuendo/SX interface is easier to read & slightly
more intuitive. I'm in the market & would happily buy either, but that's my one concern w/DP3 -- everything seems very cramped to me. That is not to say that DP3 is inferior in any way -- I wouldn't pretend to know.
