I know this is a question with a really simple answer but I just don't get it.

My husband plays both acustic and electric guitar and we want to do some simple recording so he can practice and maybe give the cds away at Christmas.

Do I have to get a micraphone with USB? I guess I was hoping for a simple interface so he could plug into the computer as his "amp."

I am downloading ProTools free but I have no idea what to do with it.

We have a new iMac. I get to play recording engineer because my husband is leery of computers. I am also the wife/groupie and roadie.

There are many input devices you look at. One recommendation - - don't get the Grifin iMic!! You'll be much happier with a product from Edirol, Tascam, DigiDesign, Mark of the Unicorn, etc.

The least expensive option that I'm familiar with is the Tascam US224, listing around $375. Offers 2 line in and offers 16 or 24 bit quality.
