Hey, I have a Ti - g4 500 with 768RAM. When I am running DP3 it seems to run the Processor really hot, and the RAM is sleeping practically.. I seem to only be able to have 10-14 tracks with Dynamics, eq's etc on most tracks.. it keeps overloadinging and stopping. I've been reading alot and people seem to be able to run a lot more tracks without any problems on similar or slower machines..
Does anyone know if you can adjust the settings to put more strain on the RAM instead of the Processor? I know this maybe doesn't make sense, but worth a try..
thanks in advance if anyone has ideas..

Which plug-ins are you running? 2 - 4 band EQ's and Dynamics are pretty harmless, but everbs, plates, Masterworks plug-ins are quite procesor intense. In addition, your internal drive may only be a 4200 rpm which may not be able to keep up. If it's fragmented badly, there is where your problems may lie.
You could try changing the buffer size. I set mine on my G4-400 AGP to 256 today and it is much smoother.
Additionally, on my iBook (dual usb), I max out at about 8 tracks.
Also - just ran accross this. Check the "Energy Saver" control panel and make sure that the "Allow Processor Cycling" option is not selected.

thanks for the reply.. I AM running some everbs, MW's etc.. My drive is external Fire Wire 7200RPMs.. think it's cool, it's new and clean.
ya, I've been messin about with the buffer sizes etc.. gonna keep trying that.
When I get home from work I am going to check out my energy saver options, good idea.. I recall setting up that stuff, but don't know if I caught that detail..
how many tracks can you run with effects on your G4-400?

I've been able to effectively record and edit 16 tracks of 24/48 audio with plug-ins. 8 channels of drums with compressors, MWgates, eq's, guitar tracks, vocals. I'll be put to the test with a Jazz Band project I'm working on. I won't need many plug-ins, but 28-32 tracks will be pushing it.
I don't have a problem with processor power, but with buffers. Normally, I assign equally to 4 drives on a Sonnet Tempo ATA66 card. For the Jazz Band, I'm gonna use those 4, and an additional 2 FW drives just to see if that helps any.
I've thought about getting an 800mHz upgrade card from Sonnet, but I think I'm waiting for the next edition of G4's as the MDD's seem to be a bit too quirky.
