Hi,

I am new to the forum, and new to Keyboards and Midi. I have been playing keyboard for a while now, but never got into the Midi design. I would like to know more about Midi. I play a Yamaha P-200 and Roland Super JV-1080 Midi'd into it. I want to expand my Midi capability and learn about sequencing and how to connect to a computer to control things. What kind of things do I need? What type of Computer must I have in order to run an efficient Midi Sequence? I am looking for pretty good stuff, not just to "get by" for a while with cheap things. I am just wondering what kind of things that I can use to start controlling my Midi sounds with a computer.

Thanks for the help,

Matt

Probably you would start by choosing a software sequencer, and seeing the recomended computer needed to run it. There are a lot of free demo programs that would allow you to try them before buying. There are lots of music midi web sites where you can download songs, then study them to see how it is done. With a sequencer, you can build each part of the song, edit mistakes, add effects, and some programs will allow you to mix in 'live instruments'...like you playing drums or guitar or vocals. You can play the midi back to your music keyboard for the sounds you like, and record them as an audio file...back to the computer. If you have a CD burner..... you can produce your own CD right on the computer. So there are lots of fun things that you can do. You connect to the computer with a midi cable, to the joystick port/ firewire/ usb ,or what ever you like best.
