Can anyone suggest a brand/type of reference monitors?
(To be used for final mix-down on a PCI system: M-Audio Omni)

Thanks for your help,

Tannoy, Genelec and Mackie are all excellently rated and reviewed near field reference monitors.

Texas T,
I use an ol' pair of 20/20 bas's , some beat up computer speakers, and a pair of alesis mon 1 powerd to reference mixes. To record ... the 20/20's a bit more in my pricerange than Genelec and a few hundred dollars shy of Greg Mackies stuff.

The Mackie HR-824s pound for pound are GREAT value for the $. I have some Genelecs that cost me twice as much that are really not much (if any) better.

I'd agree...the Mackies are great speakers, and are a great value compared to some of the other speakers out there. We use them in our studios here as well as our demo rooms, so we obviously like them. We do have a set of Genelecs in our "A" studio, which I do like a little more...I don't think they sound twice as good (if there were any way to measure that), but once you get to a certain point you start paying bigger and bigger premiums for smaller and smaller increases in performance.

If you are looking for the best, though, I'd recommend checking out the ADAM speakers...I heard them for the first time at AES last year and was very impressed. They're up in the Genelc price range, but definitely worth the money...

I second the ADAMs. I'm thrilled with mine. And Sweetwater now carries them. Hallelujah!

Yeah, too bad we didn't have them when you bought yours! Which ones did you pick up?

I got the S2A's. Would've liked the S3A's, but the money just wasn't there. As luck would have it, ADAM came out with the S2.5A right after I got mine at the old S2A price point. The S2.5's probably would have been perfect for my bass-happy preferences

I really like the S2A's, and the bass is amazing for a 7" cone. I could use a bit more, however, as I find that I'm still not getting it quite right the first time in the very bottom octave (from about low B to G on a 5-string bass).

Which brings up the next question: do you guys carry the P-series and S-series subwoofers? :)

We don't stock them, but we can get anything in the ADAM line. We'll probably stock more and more as word spreads on them...

Sounds to me like you need to get into surround sound and put some 2.5's up front and use the 2's for surrounds...just kidding...would be nice though, wouldn't it?
