I'm currently in the process of researching my options for an interface and software with my new MacMini. I've settled on DP5 & the 8pre by Motu.
Any thoughts and or personal experiences that could back up my decision or put me to shame? haha.
Any feedback is good feedback. Let me know .:classic:

that interface will work just fine. i would consider those about middle of the road preamps. also, i'm glad to see someone else use Digital Performer, which i also use. I've very very underrated. the audio editing abilities are right up there with pro tools. very solid and stable. fantastic midi, and amazine film scoring abilities. you'll love it. i do.

very easy to use. great product. i don't know why it isn't more popular.

I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at the stable comment. Now, sure, but when they first released version 5 it was far from stable. It's pretty good now, but I'm trying to jump over to Logic as my primary tracking, and the university I work at is jumping to PT.

Another thing to note, 6 is supposedly coming out soon. The 8pre is fine, I have personal reasons that I dislike MOTU and it boils down to a bad string of repairs.

definitely not a bad combination, but i'd be sure that i did my research before shelling out the cash; different people have had different experiences

I've been running MOTU gear - 2408 v1 and 24i - for almost 8 years now without any glitches and am running DP5.1. I'll be updating to 6.0.
I've never had issues with my boxes, but understand the issues others have had with the newer FW and USB devices.

i've heard many comments about how awful and unstable DP 5 was. honestly, i never had any problems. i did have crashes but that was a hardware problem (not enough memory),, not DP. since i've maxed out my memory to 16GB, never a problem. they has a different format (MAS) for plugins with caused me difficulty at first, but now they has VST wrapper programs.

i hear about these problems all the time. don't know what i'm doing but it works fine for me.

i also use logic (I've got a symphony rig) and i love that too.

basically i use logic for recording mix songs and DP is my tool writing music for picture. the queing abilities for DP are pretty amazing.

i should have pointed out in my post that i have heard some pretty bad things about DP, but it's worked out great for me.

LOGIC STUDIO is a native program for mac so it is amazingly stable. And it's a suite giving you the most tightly integrated programs for the mac platform.... thus being in my opinion the most cost effective.

But DP is a good choice ..... too.

DP is a native program, as are Sonar, Pro Tools and many others. Just because it isn't made by Apple, doesn't mean it's non-native. Logic's nice, but it's not easy to learn or the best for everyone. I've had as many crashes with Logic as I have with DP.

In fact, since upgrading to DP 5.13 I haven't had more than one or two crashes and those were my fault (trying to get the app to do stuff it can't really do). Meanwhile, I've Logic on the same rig crash when tracking. Of course, I had DP crash when tracking in all versions 5.x until 5.13.

GoingHollywood, just curious, why did you choose DP over Logic Studio? I'm trying to decide between the two myself and would like to know what other people have to say about this.
