Mixer as Audio Interface

:classic: Sorry for the dumb question, but will a mixer with a USB connection (such as an Allen & Heath ZED 24) allow you to record the individual channels or just the stero output?

Most of the USB Mixers have just a stereo connection to the computer. Most will show you in the specifications which will actually allow you to multitrack. I know that the Mackie Onyx Mixers with the Firewire option will do it. There are a handful of other mixers that can do it as well.

The only USB mixers that can give you individual outs are USB2.0 mixers, because only they have the bandwidth for it...and the only ones that I'm aware of that do that right now are the Multimix (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=multimix+usb+2.0&go=Go%21) models from Alesis.

there are several mixers that have USB interface intergrated into the system. You can route your DAW for 2 seperate mono tracks or 1 stereo track.

the best way to record is to get a mixer that has outputs for every channell and get a sound card like a Delta 1010 that has multiple inputs that way you are able to record simontaneously on 10 seperate tracks.
you are very limited with USB interfaces and firewire is not all that much better IMO.
