I'm preparing for an upcoming project in the acoustic design and construction of a studio. Regarding a Control Room I've established dimensions for distribution of Modal Frequencies for the actual layout of the room. Design frequencies have been calculated for Axial, Tangential and Oblique modes. Amongst my research, nothing has determined or specified from where my monitors are placed to the opposing wall (Axial) verses north to south walls, east to west walls or vertical. Can anybody tell me if monitor placement changes what the dimension of my room modes are because distance of incident sound? Thanks, Rob

The room is going to keep its modes no matter where the speakers are placed, however speaker placement is going to have an effect because they'll determine the mix position (you want to make sure you're not in a pocket of modal mud) as well as you'll want to be mindful of first reflections and treat those spots accordingly.

there are some guidelines out there for monitor placement as a function of room dimensions. Don't have them bookmarked, however.

If memory serves, Connor has some info about this on thestudiofiles.com
