I just set up my amp and passive monitors and everything is great, except that when I turn the amp off, after about 5 secounds, it sends what seems like a discharge and the speakers give out a harsh pop. What is this, and how can I get rid of it, I feel like over time it would do damage. The amp is an older model crown D-75 and the speakers are yamaha studio speakers.

Some amps do this as the power supply discharges. Most newer amps have circuits in them to prevent these types of unsettling things from happening. Depending upon how loud it actually is it's probably not harmful. If it seems excessive to you then you might have the amp checked out. I seem to remember that the old (silver faced) D-75's let out a bit of a discharge like this.

Does the gain/volume on the amp affect this? i.e. if you have the knobs down to zero or - infinity, does the pop still come through? If you haven't verified it, try turning the knobs all the way down to zero before powering down.

Yea, it is the silver face amp. What can I do about it then, and is it harmful to my speakers? And no, the discharge is not affected by the volume.
