i was wondering what kinds of things i would need for a home studio to record basic guitar and vocals
i have nuendo so thats the computer part of it, but other than that im lost
so far ive heard that i will need
-condenser mic
-mic preamp
-mixer
-new soundcard
-guitar microphone
-guitar preamp
if anybody has any decent-budget solutions or specifics please let me know
or if i will need any of this or none of it

One thing that's for sure not listed is powered studio monitors.
But if that's pretty much the extent of what you want to do, depending on what soundcard you get, you can probably take the mixer off the list. If you get a soundcard / audio interface combo that has built in monitor outputs such as Digi 001 or M-Audio Delta 1010 or Delta 66 you probably won't need a mixer for what you're planning on doing with it.
If you're recording electric guitar, you'll need a small condensor dynamic mic such as a Shure SM57 (the standard for recording electric guitar amps). However, for acoustic guitar, you'll probably use your vocal condensor mic for that.
Speaking of the vocal condensor mic, if you're looking into budget equipment, I'd suggest probably a Rode NT1 or a Stuido Projects C1. I heard a sound clip of a SP C1 up against a Neumann U87, and it was just about a dead knockoff! Sounded almost the same!
