Im pretty new to the recording scene. Ive been doing it for about a year now. What I need to know is what software is best for recording 24 tracks of audio. I am running Win 98 on a compact presario. I started out recording with a Fostex XR-3 4 track. Then I started using Acid Pro 3.0 until I found out you cant record audio with it. I have a factory soundcard but I am willing to upgrade ASAP. I would like to use something like Digital Perfomer because I am somewhat familiar with it. I am basicially wanting to record audio from an MPC2kXL and a Korg Triton.
Please be specific with any ideas. Im pretty new to recording. Thanks alot.

24 tracks of audio simultaneously or 24 tracks of audio, one track a a time? I ask because you state that you are willing to upgrade your sound card. If you want to record 24 tracks of audio simultaneously, that is a given.
If you only want to record a few tracks at a time, how many? And how do you want to work with the tracks?
For the record, Acid should record audio. It's not great at working with full length files, though. Vegas is Sonic Foundry's multitrack app.
If you are going to work with MIDI and audio, I can only recommend SONAR as SONAR and Cakewalk are the only programs I have taken the time to work in depth with and I've had few complaints about them. Up until SONAR with automatable FX plugins and since Vegas came out a few yeras ago, I've done my strictly audio work in Vegas, now I think Vegas will be shelved until they come out with FX automation.
