There is about a $100.00 difference in these mikes. Has anyone tried the AT 3035 that has used the AT 4033? They would be used for acoustic music and vocals. Thanks for your thoughts.

The At4033 can be considered a basic version of the great AT4050, which also makes Omni and Bidirecional patterns.
The At4033 only makes cardioid pattern, it is a little brighter ( smaller/thinner diaphragm)
. If you are thinking of buying a similar mic, check out the AT4047 or the AT4040.
I love the ATUS mics. I have 3 AT4050 and I am planning to get an AT4040 as soon as possible.
:)
I actually like the 3035 more than the 4033. I've never had the chance to A/B them, but I've used them both on several occasions and I liked the sound of the 3035 more. It seemed a little fuller to me, and also a little brighter.
The 4033 has since been replaced by the 4040, though, which is actually closer to the 4050 that either of them...it has a true large-diaphragm condenser element. Not that that necessarily means it will sound better, or closer to the 4050...I haven't had a chance to use it yet, so I can't say for sure.
However, for the price, I think the 3035 is a steal.

Ted, the At3035 can be compared to a C2000B/C3000 Bor a GT55, right? all in the same level?
It would compare most directly to a C3000B...both are large-diaphragm electret condenser microphones. The C2000B is a small-diaphragm electret, and the GT55 is a large-diaphragm true condenser. Doesn't necessarily mean one's better than the other (although conventional microphone wisdom, if there is such a thing, would say otherwise)...

I recorded a Camerata project, their fourth Cd, it is quite good although budgeted.
With C3000Bīs and C2000Bīs I have to make reasonable with my Q4 on the high mids. Something that the At4050īs are a breeze.
I have just bought a GT55.
I am scraed that C3000Bīs and C200Bīs are eletret! If if had knewn that before hand, certainly I would be in doubt for the specific purchase...
I do not see much difference between the C2000Bīs and C3000Bīs. I have a pair of each and seems the C2000Bīs have more gain and more bass. The C3000Bīs have cleaner high mids, but with both, specially with piano and acoustical guitar, seems the sound comes already compressed, I dunno how to explain the sonic sensation.
The GT brand is starting to get more popular now in Brazil. Here I do not know anyone who sells Rode yet..
Anyother points of view? thanks

So, would it be something like this?
a) AT4050 x AKG 414 TL2 x GT67 x TLM103
b) C3000B x AT3035 x KSM 27 x GT 55
c) C2000B x SM81 X NT1(2)
d) AT4040(7) x KSM37
correct me if I am wrong!!
Thanks!!!

I wouldn't be scared to purchase a microphone just because it's an electret...there are some great high-end electrets out there, such as the small-diaphragm microphones from Earthworks and DPA...

That's a good point...people always assume that a bigger diaphragm equals bigger sound, but that's not always the case.
It can be difficult to describe the sound of a microphone...

yes! h ihats sound much better with pencil style condenser mics!!!
example: Sm81
Opposite, an SM57 just can not handle properly the bass energy of a bass drum!!! so, an AKG D112, Sm91, Beta 52 handles the job much better!

I also would say that the AT3035 sounds much better than the 4033. As someone posted earlier, the sound is much more full on the 3035. When I have used the 4033 mics, they always sound like i'm missing something.
