Hi,

I am looking for some advice regarding soundcards. I am starting a small studio at home and I want to get some decent equipment that will meet my needs.

What I am recording: vocals, guitars, brass, fiddles, possibly some drums (mostly single track)

What I have:
PC: Windows XP Proffesional, Intel Core 2 6600 @ 2.4 GHz, 1GB Ram, 230 GB HD

Board: Yamaha MG124cx (good live board, don't know if its good enough for recording)

and some other crappy recording equipment which I will not be using

What I am thinking of buying:
PCI Sound Card: M-Audio Delta 1010 (about in my price range and what I read seems good)

Wave Studio: Sonar 6 or 7 - not sure which version i.e. home, lab etc...

Monitors: Alesis M1 Active MkII (a friend recommended them, they seem to have a decent frequency response)

Misc: Possibly a decent tube mic preamp

At any rate, I'd like to spend no more than $800 at the moment.

I am open to any suggestions...

Also I am curious to know if I can isolate my stereo system from my recording equipment? I was thinking of keeping my stereo hooked to my current sound card and using the other for recording only. I have a decent boston acoustic passive speaker system running from this computer to my amp that I do not want to rid myself of but I dont think they would be any good for mixing. I would like to keep the active speakers seperate - can I possibly do this on one card?
