Hey,

I am somewhat new to recording. I am looking to buy a mic to hook to my firestudio interface for recording male blues vocals. To compare my vocal sound, it is comparable to rough blues singers like George Throrogood, Howlin' Wolf (although certainly not that good), or Bob Dylan (in his recent songs like 'rollin' and tumblin')

What mics should i be looking at to capture this kind of sound in the $200-$500 dollar range? Willing to spend more if highly reccommended, but these are just home recordings.

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

I would consider the M-Audio Sputnik. I had one and got rid of it because of financial difficulty at the time and truly regret it. It reall does sound amazing. It's a multi pattern mic (cardioid, fig. 8, and omni) but I liked it best in cardioid, and it WILL give you that smokey blues sound, especially male vocals. I haven't tried it on female vocals so I can't comment, but I am definitely going to buy another one this weekend. even with my crappy omni studio breakout box and delta 66 card (M-Audio) I was extremely impressed by it's sound quality.

hmmm, the sputnik does have some great reviews. Definately the kind of thing I am looking for, classic sound without the collector's item price. I will certainly be considering this one, despite it being a little out of my preferred price range.

any other suggestions, anyone?
