So, I've been searching for a while, and coming up with a few XLR wall jacks with up to 4 connectors in a dual gang box. What I am looking for is one with many more connectors.

Has anyone seen any XLR Wall jacks with like, 8, 12, or preferably 16 connectors? I am trying to run cable into my control room, and I'd like a 16 channel set up to run a lot of gear through if need be.

how about a standard snake with a breakout box on the end of it? I had the same problem about 10 years ago and just designed my own panel - then had Whirlwind make it for me. However, given the choice again, I'd buy something before I'd wire my own - too much stripping and soldering.

There are a few companies who make a sort of modular (for lack of a better word) system of wall plates where different pieces and parts can be combined to come up with what you want. I believe ProCo may be one of them, so you SW SE should be able to find out about it if that's the case.

Another route would be to design what you want and then get ProCo (or any of a dozen other companies) to custom build it for you. This is BY FAR the most professional looking solution, especially if you get them to label it.

So I'm guessing that's what most studio's do is just commission some company to build one to spec? What exactly did Sweetwater do?

Assuming the cost isn't outrageous, the custom job is probably my best bet.

Best known for stage pockets for install work, but they do custom wall plates and panels too.

I've used them for years for installs. Great quality, and a standardized modular system with lots of options.

We've done both around here, but in the studios it has been almost entirely custom plates made by folks like ProCo. They (ProCo) do a fantastic job and turn things around quickly for us. It's not that expensive in the grand scheme of things and the resulting look is much cleaner and more professional than any of the do-it-yourself alternatives. It does require a bit more planning ahead of time though. You (obviously) have to have every little detail ironed out before you order.

Markertek has wall plates with up to 6 XLR connectors. They also do custom work.

Otherwise, you might be in for stage boxes, but they are rather deep and probably won't fit in a wall.

They also stock parts by middle atlantic that allow you to mount smaller wallplates together on an EIA 19 inch panel to make your own cutom set-up.

The fewer holes you punch in your walls, the better. Good Luck.
