'There are more questions than answers'.
Whoever wrote that line was spot on.
I've been researching into buying a new keyboard or sound module.
But the more I looked the more confused I got. I ended up like a kid in a sweetshop wanting a bit of everything.
Choices were;- Roland 5080, Triton Studio, Fantom, Kurzweil. Motif 8
But thanks to this excellent forum I have finally decided. (I think !)
I've been looking back over past questions and mainly thanks to the very comprehensive answers from Roland, I have decided on the Motif 8.
However, I've just been reading about the Yamaha Tyros.
This looks pretty awesome.
But who is the target market ? Is it the 'serious' songwriter ?
Or is it the 'velvet dickie bow' cabaret performer ?
I don't think it has what I need - Full keyboard piano action. Which is a shame because it looks pretty useful.
Has anyone laid there hands on this instrument yet ?
Any views ?
(Thanks to the organisers of this excellent forum.)

I got a chance to check out Tyros a few weeks ago and it is very, very cool. It has a new type of technology entitled _Megavoice Technology which simulates the subtitles of a selected instrument. It is definitely an auto-accompaniment machine - basically following the player or even singer as they make their way through a song. _ _
I can definitely see it being used for songwriters as well as live musicians but its certainly different than a motif. First off, its only 61 notes. Secondly, it is set up to work more like an arranger - allowing you to arrange different preset styles - to create your song. It can work like the Motif sequencer, where the user creates all the parts, but its really meant to be more of an arranger. I don't think its going to be available for a few more months, so I don't know if its worth waiting for, but it is very cool. Maybe take a closer look at the Yamaha PSR9000 to get a better idea of what it is.

Thanks Bob. Very useful info there. Looks like the Motif is still the winner.
How does the PSR9000 Pro fit into the picture ? How does it differ from the Motif ?
I am a fairly mainstream (non performing) songwriter, covering various styles. (Pop, R&B, Country.)
I'm not very technology savvy and I'm not into programming.
I just want the most realistic instument sounds ready to go and an easy to use instrument.
Many thanks for your time and advice.
John.

the psr9000 has some great sounds - similiar to the motif - but is an arranger style keyboard, etc. It has different preset styles (rock, rap, country, etc) and you can arrange them to compose your song. It can work like the Motif sequencer, where the user creates all the parts, but its really meant to be more of an arranger.

Have you checked out the Roland Fantom? How about the Kurzweil K2600? Korg Triton series? What are your thoughts on those vs the motif?

go with the motif. you wont be dissapointed i promise. in fact if you are dissapointed with it i will allow you to return it to where you bought it from and get somethign else(that is if they allow that as well).
