Hi DJ,
I don't own one, but I've listened to it a few times in use. If you're after good sound, this is a good all-in-one to get. Actually, after listening to the Rolands and Korgs, this is the ONLY one I would consider getting. The other ones sound really grainy to me, and you can tell they're just sort of thrown together (hardware and software). The Yamaha runs at a 32bit wordlength for effects AND mixing, which really smooths out quantization errors in the LSBs. The other boards mix at 24 bits, where you have no room for digital errors, and from the sound of those units, there are plenty of errors.
Plus, if you want to get a realllllly good sounding portable setup, you can add the Waves effects card and the Apogee converters. That'll double the price of the unit, but it would be a terrific little getup.

The learning curve on the Yamaha is pretty level. It doesn't take much time to get up and running. I didn't get too deep with it, but I don't think there's anything you couldn't figure out within a few minutes.

As far as the bells and whistles on the Yamaha (sampler, etc.), I couldn't tell you, but they sure were fun to play with. :)
