Hi All,

Just wondering if any one has updated their 002rack to 003 and their thoughts on it.

Is it worth it, can you tell the difference?

Cheers,
MG,

I guess the big question is, what about the 002 isn't working for you to make you want to upgrade?

I think the coolest addition is much needed wordclock on the 003. I can't say if it sounds noticeably better, hopefully there was some improvement on the analog and conversion end, but for me, I would be happy to get the wordclock. IF you don't need that, you may not be in a big hurry to get it. I wish there were more info on the possibility of just hardware upgrading.

as far as sound quality, i don't think they are much different... have you looked at the BLA (Black Lion Audio) mods for the 002? I don't have an 002, but I have heard from COUNTLESS people that the mod significantly improves the sound and usability of the 002. It's supposed to be like taking a towel off the thing...

I have a Apogee Ensemble, and I was hooked up with a free copy of Logic Pro from a close friend so I don't own a 002 or 003 or anything. I love my ensemble and it just sounds fantastic. I DO use pro tools however at school and when I work at the studio (I intern at Chicago Recording Company in the summer) so one of these days I do need to get an 002 or 003 to interface my ensemble to pro tools through lightpipe...

So if you get rid of your 002 for cheap, let me know :)

But if a sound improvement is what you are looking for...then check out the BLA mods http://www.blacklionaudio.com/

Cool, thanks guys.
Yeah lm happy with what l have for the moment. Was just seeing if any one has done it. Seeing that Digi are offering exchanges for the moment. I must admit upgrading from 6.9 to 7.3.1 PTLE software, l could hear a better sound quality. I have heard it from some other people as well. Thought l was going nuts. Maybe instead of upgrading, maybe l should get more plugs, hehe:)
Never ends:)

Cool t-shirts by the way Jordan.

Cheers.

I love messing around with new plugins... I just got Vintage Warmer a few months ago and I love it...

Thanks a lot for checking out my t shirts.. Im actually working on some new "theremin" designs right now.. I started this shop just about a week ago and have been getting good feedback so im excited! If you have any designs or ideas, let me know, and i'd be happy to custom make something and put it up for you...

Chris,

I think you already know this of me but...

The 002 offers MORE than most engineers have the talent to take advantage of. There's nothing I do on a day to day basis that couldn't be done with an 002.

Stay where you are. Save your money. Practice and master the software you have.

If you have to spend money perhaps save it for a visit to Southern California. There are some great engineers here in the area and I'll bet you your audio will benefit more from hanging with them than buying an 003.

yeah,

thats not much of an upgrade path if one is looking to exchange just the I/O.

If there was a significant difference between the 002 and 003 in sound quality, I would say it is worth swapping out, I mean just because the 002 has enough features, in the end, its all about sound, and improvement in tracking sound quality makes everything easier and better, talented or not. However, it is looking like any improvement may be hard to justify the price since it will probally be small, unless you really want wordclock, which I do, but its gonna wait for a bit.

Thanks again guys for your input, appreciate your honesty. I think really l was curious to see if anyone has notice a difference in sound quality. The specs are pretty similar. But yes l will stay where lam.
Save my cash and gate crash some enginners in sunny Southern Cali. No names ofcourse. Just some guys that do pretty cool promos:)
What the hell its only a 14hr flight. hehe. But is the beer any better? hmm. Now thats another discussion.

Naw I'm sure the beer is not up to par with the Aussie brews.....we'd just somehow have to manage with what's available.

We do however have some fantastic spots with fantastic views that might mitigate the differences. Malibu in the evening provides for a pretty good backdrop for a beer of two.

Whenever you're ready...

No 002 to 003 upgrade path, last time I checked. Black Lion may be the better hardware choice, depending on how you use your system.

IT would be great if Digi offered jsut a hardware upgrade, say like 500 bones or something, Perhaps someone from the sweetwater team can drop hints, kinda like i just did. ;)

500 bones?

The Black lion thing looks ok, but l don't have the time to go without my hardware unit. So l guess sitting back having a few beers in Malibu looks good.

There is upgrades from 002 to 003. Well its on the Aussie digi site, which lm sure is the same for all, l think??

500 bones is a slang term which just means 500 Dollars. I saw upgrade paths, nothing short of a grand in which the software was included, so notthing straight hardware to hardware right.. ??...

yeah the black liion thing, couldn't go without my interface either. I do bypass pretty much all analog stages on my 002 however with adat digital and a separate converter.

ah right have never heard of bones like that before. hehe
from what l can see to its a full on packaged upgrade.

So l will just stick with what l got and maybe come over, hehe":)

For broadcast, you won't need the extra oomph a BLA mod would impart. I would only suggest getting that if someone is using the 002 extensively for critical audio capturing and needed as much clarity and quality as possible. A little improvement won't make a promo any better in the end, considering the medium its played back on.

nice site. did you write the music in production music?

Cool thanks man,
Yeah using various, loops, programs, Virtual Instruments. PT etc etc.
The work l usually do is a wide range so l try be as flexiable as possible.
Plus getting great advice from various people:)

But its all fun.
