Hi,
How is everyone doing?
First off this will be my first real decent setup. I'm upgrading from a M-Audio MobilePre, M-Audio Dx-4's, and a SP B1.
I have about $4000 to spend on hardware only, and I record hip-hop/rap.
What I would like you guys to do:
Put together the best setup I can get for $4000.
Interface
Channel Strip
AD Converter
Mic
Monitors
Thanks for your help and time.

Is this with a computer? And if so, is it Windows or Mac based?

With regard to monitors,it would not be hard or expensive at all to upgrade from the Dx4's that you have.I had a pair about 3 years ago & it was'nt long before I realized what a waste they are, once I discovered what else was out there.
Even if you spent the same money that you paid for the Dx4's on a pair of Samson Resolv 40a's,you'll realize what a great deal they are,as they are much louder, have much more sonic clarity-especially with the tweeters and they are rock solid.
Since you have a decent amount of green to spend, why don't we begin with how much you are willing to spend? That would be a good start.
Even just looking over Sweetwater's monitor buying guide would be especially good for you,I think. Also, speaking with a Sweetwater salesperson such as David Klausner would help you a great deal.
Monitors are a very intergral part of any studio,so educate yourself,do the research & find out everything you can get your hands & ears on.

For monitors I'm planning on going with a pair of Yamaha 50m's.

I have 2 questions
1) have you picked a DAW yet?
2) are you planning on getting sample libraries/synths etc to produce sounds?
