Our band is using a PV14 mixer and a protools like software for recording. We will be using the tape out RCA and plugging it into the computer. Are there any suggestions to get the best recording? My last band used a similar approach by using a mixer and a simple tape deck. The recording was initially very good until we started to back the tapes up and lost the right channel on the deck :scared: . Hopefully we will get much better results using the computer approach.

Read everything you can get your hands on.
Spend days in the Barnes&Noble coffee shop reading all the magazines and the software books (they have tons of 'em).
Absorb.

First off, immediately get a good beginner recording book (spend $20 before spending hundred$/thousand$) that shows you what you need to get started and how to hook everything up in your studio:
