I am about to purchase my first mac and I have found several G3's that are around $1000 and have 256-512 ram and 20-40 gig hard drive. Apose to a $1000 G4 only having like 64-128 ram and 10-30 gig hard drive. I am wondering what the real difference between a G3 and a G4 is? I plan on using the new mac to run Reason and maybe a little graphic work, any suggestions? Also anyone know when the ReMote Control keyboard from novation is coming out? Thanx a lot and any help is greatly appreciated!!

Just some obvious differences - processor speed, bus speed, expandability of ram, if you are running graphics programs you will notice screen redraws faster on the G4. If you plan on doing audio work with the computer I highly recommend the G4. I haven't heard any release date for the Remote from Novation.

I'd highly encourage you to go with the G4. The latest wave of Macs hitting the streets has dropped the prices of the previous one. You may also want to save up a few more bucks if possible: the audio performance you can get from a $1500 system is pretty impressive.

BTW, I run a Dual 450, which is a couple of releases old and has only a 100MHz system bus, not the more recent 133. It still screams on Logic 4.7, and I haven't been able to choke it using Reason.
