Hi y'all,
I'm a sound engineer at a casino in south louisiana and I am in charge of recording the on-hold announcements for our phone system here. I've been using a fostex X-12 to do this but my VP wants to have them sound more professional.....(We may end up using parts of the on-hold messages for our radio spots, plus when we upgrade the background music/announce system we may want to do special recording for this)

Our IT department will provide me with a computer (a Dell but I don't yet know which model or OS will be on it). So I need some advice as to what audio interface to purchase and what the pitfalls are to the various OS's that may be installed.

Most computers here have Win NT4 installed but since this computer won't be on the network I might be able to ask for another OS to be on this machine. The question is which one? 98SE? ME?, WIN 2K?, XP? I doubt they will use XP though(still too new).

I'm thinking of using the Digidesign M Box if the OS they give me will support USB. I don't forsee having to record more than 2 tracks at a time and I think that it comes bundled with Protools LE(is this correct?) Most of the recording I'll be doing is audio from CD's (for instance our jingle, and pieces of tracks from CD's by the artists that are going to be playing here ) and voice overs.

I hope this explains what I am trying to accomplish and hope that someone out there can give me some good pointers as to the best way to proceed.

Thanks for any help,

There are a lot of issues here that will take some time to answer and are pretty specific to your situation. I don't mind posting generalistic information, but in terms of product recommendations please contact me by e-mail or phone. Additionally, MBox is not PC compatible yet.
