I was wondering if anyone has used a laptop with RCA link to soundboard to play music? I have had instances where at the begining of the music you can hear line noise from the computer. Is this because of a DC signal in the line? Also is there anything that can be done about it? Thanks:scared:

I hear the particular noise you speak of even when I use good headphones on my laptop (Sony MDRs, Grados, Beyerdynamics, etc...). The only really working solution I've found is to use a separate USB or Firewire sound card though I haven't tried a Cardbus or Expresscard option, yet.

I've been DJing with a laptop (IBM Thinkpad T30) for a few years now and I can definitely recommend to use an external soundcard. I've been using two cheap Edirol Soundcards and they exhibit much less noise than my computer's internal sound card.

BTW another problem might be hum. Some friends of mine who used their DELL laptop for DJing always had hum in the line, when their power supply was plugged in. It never happened to me (so I don't know what it would take to fix), but you might want to look out for this.

Yep it is power supply hum. I may try using the battery and only charge when necessary.
