I'm curious. As someone who really values the opinion of others in the biz, I wonder if I could get some comments on which DirectX plug-ins everyone uses the most and likes best, and why. I wouldn't mind hearing about VST plug-ins as well, as I can use a VST Wrapper to run them. Thanks in advance for the ideas!

I think the two most used DirectX Plugins are Waves, and TimeWorks (i love Timeworks reverb). Waves also makes really good room emulation reverbs, which are great sounding. But, the problem with these is they use alot of CPU (like the Renassaince Compressor). So normally i use the nicer plugins on the most important things, mainly vocals, and use decent sounding plugins that dont tax the cpu as much, on the less important things (whats more and less important is up to you). So alot of times i will use just the basic Cakewalk, Sonic Foundry, etc plugins (or the waves Audio Track plugin, which is very good for this situation for the lesser important things. But hey, if your CPU can handle Renassaince EQ, Reverb, and Compression on all the tracks, go ahead and use it. It all depends on your likes and tastes and what really needs to be tweaked. Another note aside from the subject however, try and get the best sound you can without EQ. it will pay off later on :).

My Favourite would still have to be the WAVES GOld Bundle.. just an AMAZING set of tools..

great news is that the CPU crazy Rverb and C4 parametric compressor have updated code that cuts the load by almost half! :)

Waves Gold Bundle is jaw dropping stuff!!

I use that as well as the basic Sonic Foundry plugins that come with Sound Forge 5; Fruity Loops 3 has a lot of great DX plugins!

Im not even going to touch VST instruments....thats a whole different world!

o - but you have to hear some of the VST plugins instruments... the B4 was the jawdropper for me.. lol.. that and logic's native EVP88 - the only other rhodes emulation that comes that is the Korg Z1's.. everything else is junk!
