I have a MOtU 828 and looking to buy a new board for my studio.
PLease, Please offer pros and cons on the spirit M12.
Should I be looking elsewhere?
Thanks in Advance!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a great board...kind of hard to say what the pros and cons will be, though, not knowing much about your situation...what are you going to be plugging into it besides the 828? What style of music are you doing?

Well........
I will be using the board for any and all types of music. I use Cubase, Sonar, and Nuendo.
I have a Lexicon MX200 effects Processor, a dbx166 compressor, limiter,gate. A Athlon 2.1 w/ 1gig memory, and a dawmer tube mic preamp.
I will be doing all audio recording, no midi for a while.
If there is another board in say the sub $1000.00 range you would recomend..........I'm all ears.
Thx for the reply!

The reason I got the Spirit M12 with the Alesis ADAT HD24 is because it has the S/PDIF out,,among all its other great features, and that'll allow me to take my mixes into my MOTU828 like I did with my Tascam 788.
It's not an 'in line' board,,but, that's fine with me, because I'm putting my front ends directly into the Alesis. No point in having the signal chain longer than it has to be if you;re using a dedicated front end, rather than the mixer's preamp, which is what I'm doing. I'm using a Lexicon MPX200 also, through the two post fader aux stereo channels,,leaving myself 16 channels(12 mono plus the first two stereo channels) of application on the Spirit. and compressing the whole mix through the r and l mix inserts with an RNC and two balanced lines. I'm not using a gate, though I do alot of miking,,but I'm depending on the cut feature of the Alesis to help there,,that and the 100 Hz filter of the Spirit. It's a nice board.Love the 100 mm faders. Nice change after the 55mm faders of the 788.

I like the m12 . It sounds much better than the mackie and the layout is nice. Preamps kinda remind me of tascam pre. Eq is great. direct outs

..........in case you haven't already bought one.....
I just got an M12 (replacing a Mackie), and it is the best sounding small format board I have heard. Pre's are very usable, and the EQ is a dream after the Mackie. With direct outs on all the mono ins, and insert points on each channel also....it works for me.
It simply has a more present, warm sound than the other small boards I have heard, and I'd definitely recommend it for the money (even if it cost twice as much really)
